Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions. If you do not find the answer to your question, please contact us.
How does one commission a work of art on canvas?
The process involves a few steps as follows:
  1. Meet with the client to brainstorm ideas, develop rough concepts and determine budget.
  2. Determine dimensions and assess colour.
  3. Produce a sketch or series of sketches to fit the needs as determined above.
  4. Fine tune all dimensions, colours and ideas and provide a final cost quote.
  5. Begin the piece and arrange viewing near completion.
  6. Deliver and hang the completed piece.
How long does it take?
This depends on the size , complexity of the piece , and the artists current job schedule. Generally speaking , turnover rate for a custom piece is relatively quick - usually within a few weeks to a month of final approval barring unusual circumstances.
How much does it cost?
Cost depends upon time put into the piece. Time is affected directly by the size, complexity of the piece and materials involved. Of course, the clients budget is also taken into consideration from the initial planning phase.
Where can your work be viewed?
Pieces are rotated through a wide variety of venues , shows and custom showhomes around Winnipeg. Please view the News & Events for details of current and upcoming opportunities. Private viewings can also be arranged in the studio. The website is continually updated with new work on an ongoing basis.
What about shippping artwork?
Once the artwork is securely and properly packed for shipping, it can be sent anywhere in the world . This cost would be added to the cost of the piece. Artwork can also be picked up at the artists studio. Any other special arrangements can be made through the artist.
Do I need a frame for my completed painting?
Generally speaking, no frame is required as all canvas is stretched on a 2 1/2" 'gallery style' stretcher, stapled on the back and cleanly painted and finished along the sides. This provides a very clean , contemporary look for the finished piece. On occasion some clients may require a framed piece and a thinner stretcher can be provided for that purpose.
Where do you find your inspiration?
Quite simply my inspiration comes from all around me. I love photography and have built a fairly large reference library of material taken from urban and rural sources. Being an avid cyclist continually takes me into areas not normally seen by most. My musical interests also provide me with a unique view into musical themes. I'm also influenced by the work of other artists and photographers who work in similar contemporary genres to my own. Please see my Artist's Statement on the About Larry Rich page for a more personal and philosophical explanation of my approach to art.
Can I rent your pieces for my home or office?
Yes you can. I have a complete Art Rental & Sales Programme that will enhance your environment without committing to ownership. It's also a great way to experience the art in your home before purchasing. For more information, please see the Art Rental & Sales Programme page.
Do you have prints available?
Yes, prints can be made from any available original piece as a more cost effective alternative to buying an original. Cost depends on size. Please inquire for further details.
Do you create theme rooms for kids?
For years I have been helping families create theme rooms for kids. Due to the increase in the voloume of studio work, the time I have available for kids spaces has been reduced. I will still be painting them for families but on a first come first serve basis and only around the demands of my studio schedule. Some longer wait times may be incurred if the studio work is fairly heavy. This would also be dependent on the seasonal ups and downs I would experience. Obviously certain times of the year will be busier in the studio for me. Generally the early fall, the Christmas season, and the spring tend to give me heavier work loads therefore longer wait times. Mid winter and summer tend to be lighter and would allow me greater flexibilty for me to produce a room for your children.

In terms of themes painted, try to find a mural theme that would last as they grow. I prefer to paint creative original works (see the Murals page for a few examples) and tend to shy away from themes like Disney princesses or any other related, heavily marketed, trendy or copywritten material. Otherwise, the sky's the limit! For more examples of kids rooms and further ideas, please call or email. I only place limited amounts of mural work examples on the website as I use this space primarliy for the promotion of works on canvas. Thank you for your understanding.
